On-Systems, specialists in power design, manufacture and through life support for the defence, aerospace and marine sectors has announced a noteworthy building expansion with the addition of a dedicated Build To Print (BTP) production facility, with a large stores and additional manufacturing support office space.

The move builds on the firm's current production space and office and engineering accommodation. On-Systems is using the expansion as an opportunity to bring new services to its clients, in house from their UK HQ.

The existing site will be transformed through investment in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) as well as the conversion of the space into a clean PCB assembly and test environment. These capabilities will bring many advantages to clients:

  • Higher production consistency & repeatability
  • Increased part density in a smaller footprint
  • Quicker build & turnaround times
  • Reduced contamination & more controlled assembly lines
  • More rigorous testing
  • Longer in house supply chain

The new site will house product assembly, integration and environmental testing which typically demands more floor space, specialist equipment and controlled conditions. This enables:

  • Full control of product/system assembly
  • Mission ready products on time, every time
  • Earlier detection of integration level failures saving time & costs
  • Accelerated testing & customer support
  • High reliability products
  • Full ownership of the production process - board level to a tested & verified unit

The two sites give On-Systems a dual site footprint, which is configured for the high standards required in defence and aerospace applications.

This dual site model separates sensitive PCB assembly from the demands of assembly, integration and test, which reduces contamination risk and improves workflow efficiency across both areas.
